Do Over

There are some instances in life where in it forces you to reassess your goals and evaluate what your current standing is in achieving your dreams.  It's inevitable, as we all know, to come upon certain road blocks on your wild and scary highway to personal success.  Challenges will forever be present.  Some challenges may even prove to be beneficial towards your goal, but there are challenges that can be so devastating that it tends to derail you from your path.  No matter how many times we get knocked off to the side of the road, we more often than not need to rest, regain strength and re-align our coordinates.  If and when we get lost, some of us retrace our steps and go back to where it was familiar and comfortable.  When we get back to that spot where it made a lot of sense, we start over and carry on.  A lot of things can happen in your life (painful or otherwise pleasurable) that make you wish you could do it over. I'm currently wanting to do a lot of do-overs...including this blog.  It was originally created to get me a few extra bucks but its been abandoned for quite a long time now.  It may have been a lack of vision or one of the more worn out cliches "I got lazy" that propelled me to stop blogging on this site.  Instead of completely abandoning this blog and throwing it into the abyss of un-visited URL's, I've decided a do-over would be more righteous.  This time around, it will definitely be more personal.  I've changed the unambitious "Pop Cult by G!" title to an excerpt from one of the books of my favorite authors, Dr. Seuss.  Both the blog title and blog description are from McElligot's Pool.  If you've read the book, you'll know its about patience and maintaining a demeanor of optimism for greater and bigger things ahead.  So, by now you'd have gained insight on what this overhauled blog will be about.  I will be sharing stories on my search and practice for patience and my growing faith & spirituality.  I am currently excited about sharing my stories of discovering "the bigger things" in life. I'm hoping you keep me company in this adventure. ,-)

There's a new drug that tricks the body from gaining weight!!! I have hope after all! Something to save me from all the exhausting physical activity! =p.

French scientists say they have found a drug that tricks the body into burning off fat even when on a high-fat diet.
The University of Louis Pasteur team found the drug protected mice against weight gain and insulin resistance.

The drug SRT1720 - a chemical cousin of red wine extract resveratrol - targets the protein SIRT1, which is thought to combat ageing, Cell Metabolism reports.

Crushin over Gavin R!

Gavin Rossdale looks super hot in his new video “Love Remains the same”. My favorite part was that 4-6 second shot of his buttocks, haha! Oh and the shower scenes!? (makes you break a sweat sitting down, eh!?) Heehee! I’m sure Gwen S. is really happy with her catch of a hubby. It’s insane how two cool, beautiful individuals find each other and decide to “be” a couple.

Back to the video…Thanks to youtube I have limitless freedom to watch and enjoy vids whenever I want. “Love remains the same” was included in the Richard Gere, Diane Lane reunion movie based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks “Nights in Rodanthe”. According to the movie tag line its about a second chance at love. I haven’t seen the movie or read the book, I’m saving it for when I reach my 40’s so I can relate to the story better, hehe =p.

Back to the song…Gavin Rossdale has one of those distinct voices in the music industry that almost makes him a “landmark”. The song has some elements in it that takes you back to the golden “Bush” days…meaning, the song sounds like that Bush song “Inflatable”, dontcha think? ^__^

A thousand times I've seen you standing Gravity like a lunar landing You make me want to run till I find you I shut the world away from here I drift to you, you're all I hear As everything we know fades to black Half the time the world is ending Truth is I am done pretending I never thought that I Had anymore to give You're pushing me so far Here I am without you Drink to all that we have lost Mistakes we have made Everything will change But love remains the same I find a place where we escape Take you with me for the space The city buzz sounds just like a fridge I walk the streets through seven bars I have to find just where you are The faces seem to blur They're all the same Half the time the world is ending Truth is I am done pretending I never thought that I Had anymore to give You're pushing me so far Here I am without you Drink to all that we have lost Mistakes we have made Everything will change But love remains the same So much more to say So much to be done Don't you trick me out We shall overcome It's all left still to play We - should have the sun Could have been inside Instead we're over here Half the time the world is ending Truth is I am done pretending Too much time too long defending You and I are done pretending I never thought that I Had anymore to give You're pushing me so far Here I am without you Drink to all that we have lost Mistakes we have made Everything will change Everything will change I, oh I, I wish this could last forever I, oh I, As if we could last forever Love remains the same Love remains the same

I am so into CSI. I just love how the far fetched and the puzzling are effortlessly (and entertainingly) explained by science. I especially loved today’s episode of CSI Las Vegas on AXN, Episode 180 “The Theory of Theories” (Season 8) not because my brain got its regular feeding of factual scientific knowledge but because they cameoed 2 of my other favorite TV personalities, Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage of the Discovery Channel's "Mythbusters". They didn’t get a speaking role, they were just standing in the background watching Nick Stokes re-create a scene approving the flaming up of a dummy which is essentially what they love doing on their own show.

As for actual information…ya know how they always say everything happens for a reason, we are all connected and were meant to meet at one point of our lives or another? Small World? Funny coinkidink? Apparently there’s a theory for that. Thanks to my proficient researching skills I got to copy paste Gil Grissoms explanation of “String Theory” and am now sharing it with y’all to learn from. ,-p

Grissom: String theory.

Nick: Grissom theory. This is better than a bedtime story.

Grissom: String theory is 'the theory of everything.' Quantum mechanics tells us about the very small. The theory of relativity explains the immense. String theory ties it all together. It proposes that atomic particles are made up of infinitesimal vibrating loops of energy or strings. Each string vibrates at its own frequency, like on a violin, producing notes and these notes make up everything in the universe.

Catherine: Cosmic symphony.

Grissom: These strings have been combining and recombining ever since the Big Bang. So, the connections between our victims or any of us are not that extraordinary.

Nick: But every one of them thought they were alone.

Warrick: Too bad they didn't know about Grissom's theory.

Greg: In a parallel universe, maybe they're all having breakfast together.

Catherine: In this universe, maybe we are.

I kind of live in a community that still has a healthy ecosystem. How do I know it’s healthy? We have frogs and snakes slithering & hopping around the neighborhood, which according to others is a sign of a thriving environment. The rain really poured today which is great ‘coz that means cooler weather and I don’t have to water the plants, but it also means I have to give the dog a bath tomorrow ‘coz it has been sleeping on wet muddy ground. The rainy season also tends to bring out the croakers, so right now I’m typing to creepy frog music which is why I should wrap this up as early as possible if I want to be able to try and sleep through frogs serenade.

Random Fact #1:
I tend to get a bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to cleaning dishes. You’d think that since water & detergent flow through the sink & into the drain that the sink would be clean. My Aunt, a public health officer, informed me that studies have shown higher levels of bacteria in a kitchen sink compared to that of a toilet bowl. Can you imagine that!? Your bathroom throne is actually cleaner than where you rinse your plates, glasses & spoons! It is advisable that if you were to, for example drop a piece of fruit into the sink while peeling or cleaning it that you throw it away instead of rinsing it off. Just imagine that it’s like dropping your food into the sewer. So remember…don’t rinse it just drop it, it’ll save you from the ordeal of Leaky Ass Syndrome.

Random Fact #2:
I’m trying to eat right and healthy as part of my “getting fit” regimen so I completely cut out rice from my diet and replaced it with whole wheat bread only to find out that 2 slices of bread is equivalent to 1 cup of rice!!! Maybe I should just starve myself to slimhood with cereal! =c

TV Knowledge #1:
Moths, like birds also migrate. So beware of killer moths from Africa! (Another horror movie waiting to happen) =p

Stating the Bleeding Obvious:

--Atonement—
I love how this movie was filmed. I’ll call it a masterpiece of moving fine art photography. This movie can get really heavy, emotionally. I just hate how it made me cry! =p

--Kite Runner—
The story was nice. It’s simple and not overbearing. It dragged a bit but maybe because I was expecting more blood, terror, & war since the setting was Kabul & Pakistan. This movie made me cry more than Atonement did though.

---I’m a crybaby!!!--- >_<

A Consortium of Randomness Part 1 (May 11 Post)

I’ve both enjoyed and detested almost half a year of being a bum. I’m almost approaching my 6th month of bum hood and aside from broadening my movie data bank I honestly haven’t done anything astoundingly productive. Since I’ve yet to motivate myself into taking another dead end job just so I could pay my bills on time I have decided at this very moment to start a blog series bullet pointing random facts and trivia that I have managed to gather within the day through the internet, TV, DVD’s, Books, Magazines or whatever “aha!” moment I’ve managed to slip into my consciousness. And here it goes…so be it & doggawnit here’s to the start of my productivity, God help humanity! =p

Random fact #1:
I read from one of my oh so favorite websites that on this very day May 11th 1981 that Bob Marley (one of my all time favorite musicians) died from cancer. I also discovered that he is as tall as my boyfriend, hehe 5’4” ain’t that tall I tell yah! Also, he is a Mulato. He had a white English father and a black Jamaican mom. But the most interesting fact about Bob Marley (in my opinion) is that he had 13 kids and not all of them are from one woman. Apparently he had 3 kids with his wife Rita, adopted 2 kids from Ritas previous relationships, and the rest of the litter were each from different women. So Ziggy & Damien Marley are actually half brothers!!! Interesting right?!?

TV Knowledge #1:--Carmina Colgate Commercial--As we all learned in school, logic states that if A is B and B is C therefore A is C. Then I suppose benches and doors do get cavities! And you thought that painting every inch of furniture was purely for aesthetic purposes. Shame on you! Apparently you have to protect non-living inanimate objects from getting cavities too!

TV Knowledge #2:--Animal Planet Feature—Some guy who took care of wild cats said that Tigers were comfortable with water. It’s in their nature to swim or to constantly dip in the water for a bath. I guess that stupid sloth character from Ice Age 2 really is an idiot when he said tigers can’t swim.

Movie Knowledge #1:--Our Home (Hallmark Movie)—“A house is nothing but four walls with a roof over it and a home, no matter how big or how small it is is where people who live in it care & love each other”…or something to that effect. I didn’t quite commit that line to memory I just merely got the intent of it. Just like the title of that Natalie Portman movie “Home is Where the Heart Is” you make your home where you are most loved, and this is such a universal truth.
